Act now to prevent future disasters

The country is still reeling from the after-effect of the devastating year-end floods that ravaged at least seven states. 

Many are still displaced at temporary shelters and rely on government and well-wishers’ food aid including donations from China and Japan.Besides the initial RM800million allocated for initial flood relief efforts, the government is now staring at a hefty reconstruction bill that may run into billions.

Negara kita masih dalam keadaan terkejut akibat kesan selepas kemusnahan akibat banjir yang melanda tujuh negeri. 

Ramai yang masih berada di tempat perlindungan sementara dan bergantung kepada kerajaan dan dermawan yang memberikan bantuan makanan termasuklah bantuan daripada China dan Jepun. Di samping peruntukan awal RM800 juta untuk bantuan awal mangsa banjir, kerajaan kini berdepan dengan pembiayaan pembinaan semula yang mungkin menelan belanja berbilion ringgit.

Urgent call to halt further forest conversions

The Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) remains seriously concerned that Malaysia continues to negotiate the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) with 11 other countries including the United States. Hence CAP has sent a letter to the Prime Minister of Malaysia and submitted copies to all Ministers urging the Government to withdraw from the whole negotiation and not sign the TPPA.  Below is our letter to Y.A.B.
