FOUM mendesak Kerajaan Negeri Kedah untuk mengutamakan Pemuliharaan dan Perlindungan Hutan Belantara Ulu Muda (Greater Ulu Muda Forest) dan membangunkan sumber pendapatan lestari

Kenyataan Media                                       8 Jun 2020

World Environment Day 2020: Need for urgent attention on forest conversions and flooding incidence in Sarawak

Letter to Editor                                            5 June 2020

In conjunction with the World Environment Day 2020 with its theme ‘Biodiversity’, Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM) wishes to draw urgent attention to the serious consequences of the destruction of forests and rivers in Sarawak on human health and well-being. This is all the more critical when the impacts of climate change are upon us.

SAM is most concerned that not enough attention has been given to the issue of the increasing incidence of floods in many parts of the state, in a frequency that has not been seen before. We strongly believe that this has been exacerbated by deforestation and forest degradation for over four decades. This has caused much hardship to local and indigenous communities in several affected areas, and it will only get worse if no remedial actions are taken, primarily by protecting the forests and biodiversity and in rehabilitating degraded areas.

Percepatkan Usaha Untuk Mendapatkan Dana Antarabangsa Bagi Perlindungan Hutan

Kenyataan Akhbar                                    27 Mei 2020

Expedite Efforts To Secure International Funds For Forests Protection

Press Statement                                         27 May 2020

Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM) calls on the Federal Government to urgently expedite efforts to secure international funds to help states protect and conserve their forests, which are vital for addressing climate change and protect biodiversity, instead of allowing them for logging and other purposes.

SAM makes this call in view of media reports yesterday that Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor had said that 40 forest concession holders had to be paid RM1 billion in compensation or be given replacement forests due to the withdrawal of their concessions in permanent reserve forests by the previous government.

Kenyataan Media                                        7 Mei 2020

Love And Appreciate The Environment

The haze that occurred from the burning Picture: SAM

Media Statement                                       7 May 2020

The implementation of Phase 1 to 3 of the movement control order (MCO) not only reduced infection rate of the COVID-19 but also helped to educate the public to better appreciate the environment and recognize how it plays an important role in our daily lives.

Although the government has announced a Phase 4 conditional movement control order (CMCO) beginning May 4, 2020 and ending May 12th, 2020, it is not a ticket for us to revert to business-as-usual practices that contribute to environmental pollution or breach environmental laws.
