Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM) welcomes the Perak State Government’s proposal to establish a Elephant Sanctuary at KM20 Gerik-Jeli Road nearby the Perak-Kelantan border.
However, SAM expects that the area of 40 hectares proposed for the sanctuary would be unable to address conflicts between humans and wildlife, especially elephants. The area of the proposed sanctuary would be able to serve as a place to manage and conserve the wildlife only rather than as an area for roaming and natural habitat.Read more

Sahabat Alam Malaysia's comment on the shooting of Harambe the gorilla in Cincinnati Zoo, USA
The shooting of a gorilla at the Cincinnati zoo has received the attention one could only expect. Truly it is tragic to even lose one of the world’s most critically endangered gorillas either in zoos or in the wild.
The decision to shoot the gorilla (Harambe) has provoked outcry from conservation and animal groups worldwide who called the decision to shoot the gorilla as sad and tragic, branding it as a “senseless and unnecessary death”. Click to read

SEVERAL groups have submitted a joint memorandum to the state government against the degazettement of forests to make way for the Sungai Besi-Ulu Klang Expressway (Suke) project and Damansara Shah Alam Highway (DASH).
Representatives from Peka Malaysia, Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM), Malaysian Nature Society (MNS), Save Green Lungs, Say No To Suke (SNTS) and Say No To DASH (SNTD) gathered at the lobby of the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah building in Shah Alam to present the memorandum to Sri Muda assemblyman Suhaimi Shafiei, who is also political secretary to Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
